Racism plays a major role in To Kill A Mockingbird, and can be seen through the all white jury, Tom Robinson’s unfair trial, and Mayella’s loneliness. novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses diction and controversial plot points in order to influence her audience ‘s view on racism. Racism To Kill A Mockingbird was, and still is, a book read by many. There are so many things to learn from Harper Lee as she has written a classic American novel taking us through times and matters we’ve never lived ourselves before. Scout, the main character, is a young girl who as the book goes on learns many life lessons. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer in Maycomb County. When Mayella Ewell, a poor white woman, accuses Tom Robinson, a black man, of rape, Atticus takes up the trial and

And yet, after re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird, I can’t help but think about how the more things change, the more they stay the same. The book’s themes and dramatic tensions are anything but dated: they live on around us, appearing on the news and on social media. When you teach this book, I implore you to use it as a way of exploring what’s happening in this country to your students.
Let’s face it: Bob Ewell’s true manipulation is not of the facts, but of racial prejudices. Specifically, Bob hides behind the white public’s demonization of black male sexuality. Such hatred has served as fuel for far worse crimes committed in the modern day. For instance, Dylan Roof was quoted as saying: “you rape our women, and you’re taking over our country, and you have to go” to the congregation of a black Baptist Church while opening fire upon them. Racists have been using the demonization of black male sexuality as an excuse for their actions for ages. This is something your students should know.

Microeconomics is different from macroeconomics in that it focuses on supply and demand, the economic behavior of an individual, household, or business, and markets where goods are bought and sold. Macroeconomics focuses on overall economic growth, inflation, taxation, unemployment, and economic policies of a nation or region. Microeconomics deals with many of the same issues as macroeconomics, but microeconomics concerns itself with the effect that these issues have on an individual, household, or business, rather than the effects that they have on a regional, national, or global scale.
Talk about how the labor market affects supply and demand, and the price of manufactured items. Discuss labor unions and how they affect the labor market, or how the labor market is affected by an increase or decrease in available skilled labor. Address the effects that strikes, boycotts, and increasing or decreasing educational standards affect the labor market. Consider the effect that changes in the labor market and fluctuating unemployment rates have on the individual household as well as small businesses.

Students often find that most of their work on these essays is done before they even start writing. This means that it’s best if you have a general interest in your subject, otherwise you might get bored or frustrated while trying to gather information. (You don’t need to know everything, though.) For the weed killer ban, you could say that weed killer has been proven to have adverse impacts on bees, that there are simple, natural alternatives, and that weeds aren’t actually bad to have around. For the free lunch idea, you could suggest that some students have to go hungry because they can’t afford lunch, that funds could be diverted from other places to support free lunch, and that other items, like chips or pizza, could be sold to help make up lost revenue. And for the school day length example, you could argue that teenagers generally don’t get enough sleep, that you have too much homework and not enough time to do it, and that teenagers don’t spend enough time with their families.
In your essay, you want to think about how the opposition would respond to your claims and respond to them. Don’t pick the weakest arguments, either—figure out what other people are saying and respond to those arguments with clearly reasoned arguments.

Which question would help improve the development of ideas in an essay
Academic essay writing is a style that anyone can learn to produce, once they know the basics of writing an essay. An academic essay should provide a solid, debatable thesis that is then supported by relevant evidence—whether that be from other sources or from one’s own research. Most research follows a standard set of guidelines. Remembering some basic principles for academic essay writing will allow you to create valuable, persuasive papers, even if you’re under a time crunch.
Grammar, style, and punctuation are incredibly important if you want your research to be understood and taken seriously. Before writing an essay, make sure you have a solid understanding of basic grammar. Grammar basics include verb and subject agreement, proper article and pronoun usage, and well-formed sentence structures. Make sure you know the proper uses for the most common forms of punctuation. Be mindful of your comma usage and know when a period is needed. Finally, in academic essay writing, voice is important. Try to use the active voice instead of the passive whenever possible (e.g., “this study found” instead of “it was found by this study”). This will make the tone of your essay stronger. Ensure your language is concise. Avoid transition words that don’t add anything to the sentence and unnecessary wordiness that detracts from your argument.

After many years of research, I have developed a special method of quality detection that I call Latent Essay Feature Analysis (LEFA). I use it to discover what makes a great essay great. Then, I use Model Essay Proximity Scoring (MEPS) to determine how closely your essay resembles the ideal essay response for each test prompt.
Teachers should stop thinking that they have to compete with grammar checkers and view them as an assistive technology that can help reduce some of their correction load. If you are feeling afraid of losing your job to a grammar checker, you don’t understand your job very well. Providing corrective feedback on errors may be a huge part of your workload, but ask your self this. If a machine could catch all the surface errors my students make on their writing, what other aspects of my students’ writing would I want to spend more time on? Start thinking about how you can give some of the tedious aspects of your job to a machine so that you can spend more time on a higher order analysis of the ideas and the flow in your students’ writing. Instead of thinking of writing as a grammar test, you will be able to see it as communication.

Religion in China needs some explaining to a Westerner because in China it is not quite the same concept; in China ’religion’ might be better translated as ‘guiding philosophy’.
In this section we look at all the strands of religious belief in China. This page gives an overview of religion in general, we have separate pages that cover Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism – the three main religious beliefs. There are also pages on the more recently imported religions of Islam and Christianity. Perhaps most important of all is Ancestor veneration – the oldest tradition. There is also an encyclopedia of all the vast pantheon of gods and goddesses that are so important to understanding festivals and sculptures at temples. The historically important philosophies of Mohism and Legalism are described later on in this page.

Both Shamanism and Animism were primarily found outside the areas in which religious traditions were being codified, However, elements of both could be found in major civilizations, particularly among those who did not learn to read.
A new major world religion began in this time period as an offshoot of Hinduism. Buddhism began in India in the Ganges River area during the 6th century BCE. Its founder was Siddhartha Guatama, who later became known as the Buddha, or the “Enlightened One.” Siddhartha was the son of a wealthy Hindu prince who grew up with many advantages in life. However, as a young man he did not find answers to the meaning of life in Hinduism, so he left home to become an ascetic, or wandering holy man. His Enlightenment came while sitting under a tree in a Deerfield, and the revelations of that day form the basic tenets of Buddhism:

  • The Four Noble Truths – 1) All of life is suffering; 2) Suffering is caused by false desires for things that do not bring satisfaction; 3) Suffering may be relieved by removing the desire; 4) Desire may be removed by following the Eightfold Path.
  • The Eightfold Path to Enlightenment – The ultimate goal is to follow the path to nirvana, or a state of contentment that occurs when the individual’s soul unites with the universal spirit. The eight steps must be achieved one by one, starting with a change in thoughts and intentions, followed by changes in life style and actions, that prelude a higher thought process through meditation. Eventually, a “breakthrough” occurs when nirvana is achieved that gives the person a whole new understanding of life.

“This is a work that will satisfy both the curious non-specialist and the seasoned scholar in its treatment of a highly pertinent topic to the future of China, and not only its past.”

Confucianism views the family as the basic unit of society. Certain reciprocal relationships and responsibilities must be observed to preserve harmony. A specific hierarchy is pragmatic, and Confucianism places the greatest importance on rank and age in all interactions. Saving face and not causing shame to another are important. Since the family is the core unit, all the actions of an individual reflect on the family when the virtues of kindness, righteousness, propriety, intelligence and faithfulness are practised ( Table 1.1 ).
Confucianism appears to strongly affect the way education “works,” and given that students are the workforce of the future, it is also likely that Confucianism directly impacts work ethic, productivity and performance. East Asia has experienced strong economic growth beyond the West late last century, and has superseded the West in terms of educational performance, at least according to Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). A recent study ( Baumann, Hamin, & Yang, 2016 ) has established that pedagogical approaches such as strict discipline and a focus on academic performance, very prominent in Confucian based East Asian education, but not so in Western countries, are significantly linked with work ethic. We pick up from that stream of research and probe the idea that indeed Confucianism may directly (and indirectly) relate, impact, form, or at least contribute, to a Confucian work ethic (CWE).

The Quanzhen sect was founded in similar circumstances by a scholar named Wang Zhe (1113-1170), but continues to exist. Wang claimed to have received revelations from two superhuman beings, whereupon he gathered disciples and founded five congregations in northern Shandong. After his death seven of his leading disciples continued to proclaim his teachings across North China. One of them was received at the Jin court in 1187, thus beginning a period of imperial support for the sect that continued into the time of Mongol rule, particularly after another of the founding disciples visited Chinggis Khan at his Central Asian court in 1222. [See the biography of Wang Zhe.]
One of the most important developments in Song Buddhism was the spread of lay societies devoted to good works and recitation of the Buddha’s name. These groups, usually supported by monks and monasteries, ranged in membership from a few score to several thousand, including both men and women, gentry and commoners. In the twelfth century these societies, with their egalitarian outreach and congregational rituals, provided the immediate context for the rise of independent popular sects, which in turn spread throughout China in succeeding centuries. The Song associations were an organized and doctrinally aware means of spreading Buddhist ideas of salvation, paradise and purgatory, karma, and moral values to the population at large, and so contributed to the integration of Buddhism with Chinese culture.
